Hypertension of Primary Care includes physiology and pathophysiology related to hypertension, pharmacology, the research regarding race-based prescribing, the most up-to-date diagnostics, and long-term health risks and sequela.

Gestational Hypertension includes theories related to the development or origin of the disorder, risk reduction strategies, diagnosis, expected disease course, antenatal monitoring, and the anticipated management and outcome.

Preeclampsia in Depth includes theories and probable causative mechanisms for the development of the disorder, predictive techniques, prevention, risks to both parent and offspring, epigenetics, antenatal surveillance, and expected disease course and management. HELLP & Eclampsia are included in this module.

Integrative health is the use of western medicine with adjunctive therapies such as nutrition, botanicals, and supplements. Learn evidence-based interventions that work to reduce the risks of developing hypertensive disorders, that reverse the disease course for the primary care patient, and pregnancy-safe tips for reducing harm. Complementary and Alternative Medicines are discussed as well as myth-busting of common wives’ tales, but homeopathy.

WHO is the PROFESSOR for this course?
Dara Fields MSc, APRN, CNM has been practicing midwifery since graduating from Columbia University in 2008. She has had the honor of serving families of the Navajo Nation, working with traditional parteras in the Andes mountains, and practicing western healthcare in both the community & hospital settings. She founded a thriving integrative practice and has worked as adjunct faculty for nursing and medical schools in both clinical and didactic education. Her passion for midwifery and resident education is apparent through her numerous teaching awards. Dara additionally holds a B.A. in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology. She brings a sociocultural approach to curriculum development that truly sets her teaching apart.
Dara also has two beautiful children, both born at home and a husband who truly embraces wholehearted living. He’s also your IT guy so y’all be nice 😉
