WHAT’s in the course SYLLABUS?

  • Diabetes: An Overview offers you the most current statistical picture of the global diabetes crisis and how it relates to your local practice. You’ll understand the trends, correlations, and positive associations with other health conditions and their impact on people’s lives over their lifespan.

  • Physiology of Diabetes includes historical and current theories about the development of Type 1, 2, and Gestational Diabetes. With this foundation, you’re more equipped to understand pharmaceutical, botanical and herbal interventions, and nutritional and lifestyle changes and their impact on the disease state. When you understand the biological mechanisms of the disease, you’re ready to integrate all avenues of healing to restore vibrant health to your patients.

  • Diagnosis and Management includes all of the standard testing and diagnostic procedures plus we take an intensive look into the research of alternative testing and diagnostic methods. You’ll also build confidence regarding the monitoring and management of diabetic conditions in the primary care and pregnancy setting. There is so much more than just checking the glucose logs, and this course will elevate you to the expert level that your community deserves.

  • Exercise and lifestyle to treat and prevent diabetes go far beyond “eat fewer carbs and exercise”. Learn how to motivate people and make effective, sustainable changes that can lead to lifelong benefits. Know what kind of exercise to recommend and even what time of day they should incorporate a workout to have the biggest impact on their unique clinical situation. With this module, you‘ll be able to create customized plans for each patient with ease.

  • Nutrition is our most in-depth module of the course. So many clinicians feel poorly equipped to support their community with nutritional information, and this course was designed to ensure that you feel confident and ready to partner with people as they move beyond the diagnosis and into health maintenance and reversal.

With over 4 hours of nutrition education, you’ll be equipped to combat poor information, such as fads and gimmick diets, while offering sound, evidence-based information. You’ll learn the nutritional standards from national organizations, integrative nutritional methods to control blood glucose, botanicals and herbal supplements that improve the health outlook of diabetes, and understand the science behind biohacks and tricks to keep blood sugar steady. You’ll also review the evidence specific to gestational diabetes and gain the tools to make quick changes to protect the offspring and improve pregnancy outcomes.

  • Case Studies help you integrate all of the information that you’ve learned. Here, you’ll get to practice diagnosing and creating care plans with your expert professor there to explain the reasoning for each step of the care plan.

In this module, we also take a quick look at an emerging theory and focus of new research, the endocannabinoid system, as it relates to the development of gestational diabetes.

  • Type 3 Diabetes is a colloquial term for the emerging theories of insulin resistance in brain tissue and its relation to the development of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. Here, you’ll review the research regarding leptin, obesity, and myoinositol and cognitive decline.

Infusing the MIDWIFERY philosophy of care into high-risk situations is the CORNERSTONE of my pedagogic approach. We can significantly REDUCE TRAUMA while improving perinatal and maternal health STATISTICS. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.”
